Installing a Landscape Gravel

Landscape gravel is made of stones that are ideal for various landscaping purposes. This will enhance the beauty and elegance of the garden and the rest of the surrounding. Gravel is commonly used in landscaping since it has the ability to control the spreading of the weeds and minimize soil erosion while maintaining the moisture content of the soil.

Landscape gravel is not a new concept when it comes to beautification plan for the garden.  Yet somehow, a misconceived thought of lawn replacement always come into mind when landscape gravel is considered.  It is not a replacement to your existing lawn. It can come into many designs and in a variety of forms.  Landscape gravel can be sold in its many forms and uses such as:
            Horticultural grit
            Decorative gravel
            Coarse-grade stone chippings
            Stone aggregate
These are just a few of the many forms and uses landscape gravel can have.  It has numerous garden uses and while it is adaptable to any kind of beautification purposes you have in mind. Gravel blends well to the garden and does not need regular replacements every change of season.

Before you start laying the first rock on your landscape gravel, decide and choose the kind of landscape structure you want to put up.  Rocks are useful in landscaping because of its natural form and color.  Gravel adds touch to the garden and it is commonly used for numerous landscaping purposes.

Landscape gravel as mulch can provide moisture to the plants around it.  It can reduce the rate of evaporation thus maintaining the moisture content of the plants that surrounds the garden. Landscape gravel however when used as mulch sometimes fall short in suppressing the weeds because of its roughness.  In order to make it more effective place a perforated plastic underneath the gravel to make it more porous thereby suppressing the growth of weeds. Using horticultural grit is an advantage too since its fine grains can seep well into the soil. There are other obstacles when you use gravel as mulch.  During summer seasons the heat of the sun can really harm some of the plants. Be watchful in choosing the kind of plants you want to use in landscape gravel mulching.

Using landscape gravel as pathways can make your garden look rustic and wide.  While it presents firmness in its expanse it is also adaptable compared to concrete paving and lasts longer than lawn pathways.  If the pathway crosses in between your garden beds maintenance trouble is very unlikely. But if the pathway goes alongside a lawn you should define its borders by edging the gravel so that it will not cause undue problems when you mow the lawn.

Surfacing large areas on your garden by way of landscape gravel can make it look very attractive. It only need little time and effort to install.  It does not even need an eternal water sprinkler since it can somehow contain soil moisture due to its ability to slow down the process of evaporation.

Landscape gravel may be considered as a common medium in beautifying the garden but because of its numerous advantage and uses it hasn’t lost its popularity.  There are varieties of materials you can choose from: shapes, sizes and colors.  Landscape gravel denotes earthy hues and can exude positive mood and good vibrations.
